About Sea Scout Ship 1996

Building character, citizenship, and seamanship since the founding of our unit

What is Sea Scouting?

Sea Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America that promotes better citizenship and improves members' boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, outdoor skills, social and service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.

Sea Scouts learn leadership, teamwork, and responsibility while having adventures on the water. From sailing and paddling to navigation and maritime traditions, Sea Scouting offers a unique path for young people to grow and serve their communities.

About Ship 1996

Sea Scout Ship 1996 is a co-ed unit open to youth ages 14-20. Our ship maintains several paddle craft and sailing vessels, including a 34-foot sailboat that we use on a regular basis for training and adventures.

Your support through the SSS 1996 Flags program helps Ship 1996 provide opportunities for Scouts to fund their own way to attend camps, high adventure programs, and other character-building experiences.

The SSS 1996 Flags Program

SSS 1996 Flags is a fundraiser operated by volunteer families from Ship 1996. We place American flags in subscribers' yards for seven patriotic holidays throughout the year:

  • Presidents' Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Flag Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Patriot Day (9/11)
  • Veterans Day

Currently serving the Harvest Green and Aliana communities in Richmond, Texas.
